TIBCO Cloud Illustration style proposal

Project overview

Due to many designers working on different products, TIBCO’s Cloud offering has had an inconsistent style and imagery for UI illustrations across each product. The goal of this exploration was to create an illustration style proposal that:

• Establishes a consistent illustration language across products

• Expresses the personality of the TIBCO products

• Could be utilized by various designers

Competitive Analysis

Initially, the team did an audit of existing product illustrations, and collected inspiration from the illustration ecosystem of competitors.

Brainstorm

The team worked together to create a brainstorm of ideas that reflected TIBCO technology and product personality. From there we divided the exploration work and each designer did a deep dive into a concept to present.

Explorations

The UI illustration style I explored revolved around an intergalactic theme to reflect innovation and complex technology.

Final proposal

To present the proposals, the team prepared a write-up to explain the style, and provided examples of the illustrations within the context of the UI.

Space life is rough, but we make it easy

“Our products work in very complex spaces, we interact with information and technologies that move very fast and deal with large amounts of data. At the same time, our goal is to think about the humans using these products and how we best equip them with tools that are easy to use and understand. So this illustration style blends a slightly rough, hand drawn style, with collage elements from realistic textures. I wanted to create a contrast with the very technical aspects of the products with a more playful, hand drawn style.

The humanistic sketches are contrasted with photographic elements of space, clouds, and tech, but organized in clean, colored shapes. The imagery of these vast complex subjects used within these very specific shapes and colors, emulates how our products work with the large amounts of information by channeling the complexity into pieces that we can utilize and understand.

And to bring it all together, the characters and environments themselves revolve around an intergalactic theme. This provides the groundwork for creating storylines within each product but will maintain an overall relation as one cohesive family in TIBCO Cloud.”
